NBA biggest surprise was ignored in Draft after being kicked out of college

Nunn has been leading the great Miami Heat campaign this season.

The biggest surprise of the NBA season so far goes by the name of Heat freshman Kendrick Nunn, who averages 19.5 points at this start of the season for the surprising Miami 5-1 after beating the Houston Rockets 129-100 in Florida this Sunday night.

At six feet four and twenty-four, he was not Drafted in 2018, the year he graduated from Oakland largely because of college problems. Nunn had a fight with his girlfriend at the time, assaulted her, was expelled from the University of Illinois, and was only able to graduate after a year off because Oakland opened the door for the athlete.

His career seemed to be bottoming out as his name went by, until he was completely ignored in the 2018 Draft. But then came Pat Riley and Miami to give him a chance after his brief stint with the Golden State affiliate at G-League, the Development League. At 24, he continued training and waiting for a chance.

He arrived in April when he trained at the Heat and did well, earning the respect of coach Erik Spoelstra and starting position on a spin that apparently didn't give him much chance of minutes this season. Nunn did not appear on any listed freshman radar to break out in this championship. In none. A 40-point pre-season Rockets game put all of Heat on alert about what Nunn could do and he was kept in the starting lineup.

With a salary of $ 1.4 million a year, high by world standards but the third smallest in the Miami cast and one of the smallest in the entire NBA. But the money does not come into play and the youngster has been playing a lot in this beginning of the championship. Nunn is the first rookie since Kevin Durant (113 points) in 2007 to score more than 100 points in his first five career NBA matches (Nunn made 112). Durant was the second of the 2007 Draft (Seattle pick at the time). Nunn passed anonymous and silent among the 60 selected in the 2018 Draft.
