The NFL says Josh Shaw's game did not "compromise, quot; the games

The NFL said Friday that the Cardinals' game results did not support Josh Shaw’s gaming activities.
The league noted that, by announcing that it had suspended Shaw for at least the entire 2020 season for betting on the NFL games.
"A league investigation found that there is no evidence to indicate that inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way," the league said in its statement. "There was also no evidence to suggest that teammates, coaches or other players were aware of the betting activity (of Shaw)."

The league did not reveal the details of that activity, even if Shaw bet on the Cardinals games.
Shaw, 27, was already out for the 2019 season with an injury. Kent Somers of the Republic of Arizona tweeted that Shaw hasn't been around the team since August when he was placed in the injured reserve.
NFL personnel are prohibited from betting on games.
"If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you can't bet on NFL football," said Commissioner Roger Goodell at the launch of the league (through Tom Pelissero of NFL Network)

Shaw, who previously played for the Bengals, Chiefs and Buccaneers, can request reinstatement no earlier than February 15, 2021. He can appeal the suspension within three days.
The league once firmly opposed extended bets in the games, but has softened that stance (and sought to benefit from that softening) since the US Supreme Court ruled a federal ban on sports betting unconstitutional. The May 2018 ruling released state legislatures to decide whether to legalize it. Prior to that, only Nevada, Delaware, Oregon and Montana were allowed to offer bets on NFL games (they were subject to the former statute), and only Nevada was allowed to place bets on individual NFL games.
The owners of the NFL teams made clear their evolution on the issue when they approved the transfer of the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. However, the league has not yet been associated with a bookmaker, something that MLB, the NBA and the NHL have already done. The NFL reached an agreement with DraftKings (which operates a sports bookmaker) in September that made the company the official daily fantasy partner of the league.
Former NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle suspended the famous Packers star Paul Hornung and Lions star Alex Karras for the 1963 season after discovering that both men bet on the games. Rozelle reinstated them a year later. Hornung played during the 1966 season, Karras until the 1970 season.
Colts quarterback Art Schlichter in 1983 was the last player in the NFL before Shaw was suspended for betting on games, according to The Associated Press.
